5 Reasons to Have Live Music at Your Next Event

Live music has the power to create an unforgettable atmosphere at any occasion, be it a wedding, corporate event, or private party. But what exactly are the benefits of having a live band perform? Let's take a closer look at the advantages of incorporating live music into your event.

Atmosphere

Live Bands Create the Perfect Atmosphere

Looking to set a lively and festive tone? A live band is an excellent choice. For a more relaxed atmosphere, consider hiring a solo musician. Live music can really help to establish the vibe you're aiming for. Don't forget that live music can also create an intimate setting. The personal touch of live musicians will make your guests feel special and give them moments to cherish, especially during significant occasions like walking down the aisle or the first dance.

Flow

Live Bands Go with the Flow

Live music offers an interactive and engaging experience, while a DJ's performance can sometimes be more passive. When hiring a band, there are numerous focal points aside from the lead singer, especially if all band members are fully engaged and enjoying the performance. A great band knows how to energize the crowd like a DJ, while also delivering unique, customized renditions of songs. They can choose to faithfully reproduce the original sound or infuse their own distinct style, making the performance truly one-of-a-kind.

Personal

Live Music is More Personal

Live musical performers bring a unique element to any occasion. When you book a live band in Nashville, TN, you can add personal touches to your event in a way that other forms of entertainment cannot provide. For instance, you can select songs that hold special significance for you or your guests or choose music that complements the theme of your event. When you collaborate with SongStory, you even have the option of having a musician compose a personalized song for you and arrange for a live band to perform it. It doesn't get more personal than that!

This is especially advantageous for occasions that involve a lot of sitting, such as conferences and seminars. Live music helps break up the monotony and keeps guests engaged throughout. Furthermore, a lively band that can engage with the crowd adds an extra level of vibrancy, ensuring that your event will be memorable long after it's over.

Professionalism and Reliability

When you hire live bands, you are bringing on board professional performers skilled at captivating and entertaining the audience. Listening to Live Music is Good for Your Health

Yes, you read that right! Live music has been found to be good for people's health and well-being. Studies have shown that watching live music can help reduce stress hormones, including cortisol. Scientists have recently looked into the positive mood-altering effects of live music and found that cortisol levels decreased after witnessing a live performance. Also, dancing to the live band of your choice can give you the same benefits as 30 minutes on a treadmill. The Department of Children’s Services and the Governor’s Faith Based and Community Initiative unveil comprehensive strategy to transform foster care in 95 counties

Nashville, TN — The Department of Children’s Services (DCS) and the Governor’s Faith-Based and Community Initiative (GFBCI), alongside more than 1,700 foster families and children, state and community leaders, foster care providers and faith-based advocates, held a celebration at Belmont University’s Fisher Center for Every Child TN, a statewide initiative to mobilize all Tennesseans to care for children, youth, and families before, during, and after foster care.

Every Child TN expands upon the work of former Governor Bill Haslam’s Tennessee Fosters and Governor Bill Lee’s Tennessee Fosters Hope by building upon past efforts and introducing innovative solutions.

These innovations include implementing a proven recruitment technology, providing new mechanisms for community and faith organizations to meet tangible needs, and creating a seamless integration for measuring, monitoring, and meeting the needs of foster children and families.

Every Child TN is the result of two years of DCS and GFBCI efforts, in collaboration with 39 foster care provider partners, more than 300 community nonprofits and houses of worship, and thousands of foster care champions. In March alone, more than 2,300 individuals registered to become “Every Child TN Champions” as volunteers and advocates. Also in March, over 300 state nonprofit, community, and faith leaders gathered at Motlow State Community College to co-design a unified and coordinated effort to bolster foster care in Tennessee, including sharing data, best practices, and resources.

“Government cannot solve our greatest challenges, and Tennesseans will always step up to serve the most vulnerable in our state,” said Gov. Bill Lee. “Every Child TN invites all of us to care for children and families impacted by foster care. I commend the tireless work of foster families, service providers, faith and community partners, and DCS staff.”

"We are thrilled to celebrate Every Child TN, a transformative initiative leading to a brighter future for Tennessee children and families impacted by foster care,” said Commissioner Quin. “The Department of Children’s Services is deeply committed to ensuring every child in our state has the care they deserve. Together, we are strengthening foster care in Tennessee by inviting every community to serve children and families in need."

“Every Child TN demonstrates what can happen when we invite everyone to the table, co-design a strategy with state government, community providers, and faith partners, and unite around a single shared vision for the most vulnerable Tennesseans: kids and youth in crisis,” said Villio. “I am forever grateful to the innovative leadership of Commissioner Quin and the DCS staff. This is a massive undertaking, and none of this would be possible without their open and thoughtful collaboration at every turn.”

In collaboration with stakeholders, DCS and GFBCI introduce four priorities of Every Child TN: Preservation of families to prevent children from coming into state care by addressing the root causes of family instability. Recruitment of more families to cultivate a diverse pool of resilient foster families capable of meeting the varied needs of children in state care.

Retention of foster families to ensure long-term stability and permanency for children in foster care. Transition young people as they age out of foster care and provide support as they become independent adults.

During Monday’s Every Child TN Celebration, Governor and First Lady Maria Lee presented Governor’s Excellence Awards to a foster family, a DCS staff member, a faith-based community, and a non-profit foster care provider. DCS and GFBCI also announced that Dollywood, in recognition of the Every Child TN celebration, will offer a complimentary one-day visit to foster children living in Tennessee in 2025

Scorching heat, creeping drought threaten Nashville, Middle Tennessee next week

Do not be deceived, fall is not yet upon us.

Despite those dips into tantalizing temperatures, summer is going to return next week.

"Highs this weekend will be near average but things are looking hot next week with highs pushing well into the 90s to around 100," the National Weather Service in Nashville said. "The hottest day looks to be Tuesday.

Nashville averages about 49 days per year with temperatures of 90 degrees or more. So far this year, Nashville has had 52 days.

"We'll definitely be adding to that total the rest of the month," the weather service said.

The heat will also likely worsen drought conditions in Middle Tennessee.

"Things are going to get worse over the next week, if not two weeks," Ryan Husted, a meteorologist with the weather service, said in an email. "Not the best news to share unfortunately. There might be a pattern shift going into the first weekend of September/Labor Day that could bring some relief from the heat, but there's no guarantee for impactful rainfall at this time."

How hot will Nashville get?

Highs will be in the 90s every day next week until at least Thursday when there is a small chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Some areas could reach triple digits, according to the weather service. Nashville has a 55% chance of topping 100 on Wednesday, the weather service said.

"The good news is dew points won't be crazy high," the weather service said Friday morning during its forecast discussion. "This will keep heat index values close to actual temperature and likely keep us below heat advisory levels."

Thanks to those slight chances for rain at the end of next week, we should see some cooling as we head into the Labor Day holiday weekend, the weather service said.

Is Nashville in a drought?

Nashville is not currently in a drought, but residents don't have to drive far to find counties that are.

Only three months ago, just over 3% of the state was listed as abnormally dry, the lowest grade of drought. As of Tuesday, over 54% of the state is in some level of drought, with 4% in a severe drought.

Over half of Middle Tennessee is in some level of drought, according to the weather service.

In a week, the entirety of Lewis County went from a moderate drought to a severe drought. Areas in a severe drought are at risk of crop or pasture loss, fires, water shortages and restrictions, according to the weather service.

Portions of Cheatham, Dickson, Williamson and Rutherford counties all have some level of drought. Both Williamson and Dickson counties have areas of moderate drought.

With little to no rain forecasted over the next week, forecasters expect some areas to slide into an extreme drought.

Nashville-area forecast

Saturday: Sunny with a high near 92 and overnight lows around 66 degrees.

Sunday: Sunny with a high near 93 and overnight lows around 68 degrees.

Monday: Sunny and hot with a high near 97 and overnight lows around 70.

Tuesday: Sunny and hot with a high near 99 and overnight lows around 72.

Wednesday: Sunny and hot with a high near 99 and overnight lows around 73.

Thursday: A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms, otherwise mostly sunny with a high near 96 and lows around 70.

Friday: Sunny with highs near 93 and overnight lows of 71 degrees.
